Laser Hair Reduction

.Laser Hair Reduction

Did you know that there is more than one type of laser hair removal? There are two different types of lasers that can be used for laser hair reduction, and your skin type and tone determines which one should be used.

What’s wrong with going to most laser hair removal clinics?

First, these clinics are really misleading with the names of their treatments. The bottom line is that there is no way to completely stop hair from growing. Your hair follicles can rejuvenate and heal themselves, just like most other cells in your body.

Laser hair removal treatments only remove the current hair and treat the follicles so that they will not produce new hair right away. As the follicle heals, it will produce hair again, and another treatment will be necessary.

In addition, laser hair treatments don’t always remove all of the hair or “kill” all of the hair follicles. You could still have stray hairs here and there. And even if it grows very slowly at first, you will find yourself using other methods or getting another treatment eventually.

But perhaps the most concerning problem with hair removal clinics is that they only offer one type of laser suitable only for paler skin. This leaves out a large demographic of men and women who could still benefit from laser hair reduction.

Our Two Types of Lasers

The first laser we have and the one used by most clinics is a diode laser with vacuum assist technology. The highly concentrated light produced is absorbed by the pigment in the follicles. This is why it is not suitable for darker skinned patients, as it will burn the darker pigment around the follicle.

To address this problem and open our service up for all, we also offer the Lyra laser, which is a ND Yag laser. It has a longer pulse duration and a longer wavelength that allows it to be used with skin of a darker pigmentation, without worrying about potential burning.
